Job Summary:
Responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership over all Non-Life / Non-Medical technical insurance functions, with full ownership of underwriting performance, pricing adequacy, portfolio profitability, reinsurance optimization, and claims governance. The role ensures disciplined underwriting, effective risk transfer, strong regulatory and solvency compliance, and robust technical governance across Motor, Property, and all General Insurance lines.
The position supports the CEO and COO in delivering the company’s strategic objectives by enabling profitable growth while balancing risk, capital efficiency, sustainability, and long-term value creation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical & Underwriting Strategy
• Define and implement the company’s Non-Life / Non-Medical underwriting strategy (including Motor, Property, Engineering, Marine, Liability and other General Insurance lines) in alignment with the CEO’s vision and operational execution framework.
• Establish underwriting philosophies, risk appetite, delegated authority matrices, and technical standards across all non-lifelines of business.
• Own underwriting performance across all non-life portfolios, ensuring decisions are consistent, disciplined, and aligned with profitability and capital objectives.
• Lead product development and technical enhancements in response to market trends, competition, and regulatory changes.
• Enable profitable growth while maintaining underwriting discipline across all business segments. - Pricing, Profitability & Portfolio Management
• Oversee pricing frameworks, actuarial assumptions, and technical rate adequacy to ensure sustainable profitability.
• Monitor portfolio performance, loss ratios, combined ratios, and reserve adequacy across all business segments.
• Lead corrective actions for underperforming portfolios in collaboration with COO, Finance, and Business Heads.
• Ensure effective data-driven underwriting and portfolio decision-making. - Reinsurance & Risk Transfer
• Develop and execute the company’s reinsurance strategy in alignment with risk appetite and capital efficiency.
• Lead negotiations with reinsurers and brokers, ensuring optimal coverage, cost efficiency, and security.
• Ensure effective utilization of facultative and treaty arrangements to protect the company’s balance sheet.
• Act as the primary technical authority on reinsurance matters at Board and executive level. - Claims Governance & Technical Oversight (Non-Life / Non-Medical)
• Assume executive ownership of Non-Life, Non-Medical claims, including strategy, reserving adequacy, and large/complex claims management.
• Ensure claims practices are fair, timely, compliant, and technically sound.
• Strengthen fraud detection, leakage control, and claims efficiency while protecting customer trust. - Risk Management, Compliance & Governance
• Act as a key executive contributor to Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) alongside the CEO and COO.
• Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements, solvency frameworks, and internal underwriting policies.
• Support the Board, Audit Committee, and Risk Committee with expert technical input and reporting.
• Ensure robust documentation of technical policies, underwriting guidelines, delegated authorities and control frameworks. - Leadership & Stakeholder Management
• Lead, mentor, and develop teams including underwriting, actuarial/pricing, reinsurance, and technical claims teams.
• Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, underwriting discipline and continuous improvement.
• Act as a senior technical representative with regulators, reinsurers, auditors, and strategic partners.
• Collaborate closely with COO, CFO, and Business Heads to drive execution excellence and profitable growth. - Strategic Contribution & Executive Collaboration
• Contribute as a core member of the Executive Management Team.
• Support the CEO in strategic planning, non-life business expansion, and transformation initiatives.
• Provide underwriting and technical insight for new products, mergers, partnerships, new products, and market entry decisions.
• Ensure technical readiness and governance during digital transformation and system enhancements.
Requirements:
- · Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Finance, or related field· Professional qualifications (ACII, FCII, FIA, or equivalent) strongly preferredExperience:· Minimum 15–20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, with senior leadership exposure· Proven experience at executive or head-of-function level in underwriting, actuarial, or technical roles· Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and insurance market dynamics· Strong network within the insurance industry is preferable
