Job Summary:
The Boilermaker/Welder is responsible for performing welding and fabrication work on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. The role includes interpreting technical drawings, fabricating metal structures, and producing high-quality welds that meet required specifications and safety standards. The incumbent will also support workshop operations, ensure compliance with welding procedures, and maintain quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform welding tasks on mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Carry out general metal fabrication work as required
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and sketches
- Fabricate steel structures based on design specifications
- Produce high-quality welds meeting project and safety standards
- Prepare materials through grinding, drilling, tapping, milling, and cutting
- Measure, align, and assemble components accurately
- Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on welds and finished products
- Assess weld quality including bead width, penetration, and finish
- Clean, polish, and finish fabricated components to required standards
- Grind and de-burr metal surfaces for proper finishing
- Follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and assist in improvements when needed
- Ensure proper setup and safe operation of welding equipment
- Assemble fabricated items as per supervisor instructions
- Identify defects and carry out necessary repairs
- Follow workplace health, safety, and quality assurance standards
- Work collaboratively with team members to improve workshop efficiency
Requirements:
- Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boiler making/Welding) or equivalent
- At least 2 years of experience as a Boilermaker/Welder in fabrication or structural welding
- Skilled in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding techniques
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication plans
- Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes and welding procedures
- Experience using fabrication tools (grinders, drills, milling machines, cutting tools)
- Good understanding of workplace safety and welding safety standards
- Strong attention to detail and high-quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
