Job Summary:

The Technical Coordinator supports the delivery of engineering and technical works by coordinating across all engineering disciplines within the Design & Build project framework. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day technical coordination, tracking, and documentation of design drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, and technical submissions to support timely project delivery. The Technical Coordinator operates under the direction of the Design Manager, ensuring alignment with project requirements, approved design workflows, and quality standards. Key Responsibilities:
    Design Development
    • Lead the multidisciplinary coordination and integration of design information to ensure consistency, constructability, and alignment across all engineering disciplines.
    • Review and technically assess design drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, and method-related submissions for compliance with design intent, contract requirements, and approved design documentation.
    • Identify, track, and resolve design discrepancies, clashes, omissions, and technical conflicts, coordinating with relevant disciplines and escalating critical issues where required.
    • Ensure the technical integrity, completeness, and buildability of shop drawings and coordinated technical outputs prior to submission and construction release.
    • Verify that design development outputs are fit for purpose, coordinated with construction sequencing, and aligned with approved interfaces and project constraints.
    Project Management
    • Support the Design Manager in the planning, tracking, and monitoring of engineering and technical deliverables in line with the approved project programme and key construction milestones.
    • Maintain accurate visibility of engineering progress, constraints, and dependencies, and prepare regular progress updates, trackers, and reports for review by the Design Manager.
    • Coordinate the day-to-day engineering workflow for the preparation, submission, review, and approval of design drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, and technical documents supporting site activities.
    • Liaise with discipline engineers, planning, procurement, and construction teams to facilitate technical coordination, resolve routine engineering issues, and highlight potential impacts on design delivery or site progress.
    • Identify potential design, interface, and site-related technical risks, and escalate critical issues to the Design Manager with supporting information and recommendations.
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, planning, procurement, and construction stakeholders to resolve technical challenges, manage dependencies, and prevent schedule impacts.
    • Identify potential programme and interface risks related to engineering deliverables and escalate critical issues with clear recommendations.
    Compliance and Quality Assurance
    • Support the Design Manager in verifying that design drawings, shop drawings, ‘material submittals’, and technical documents comply with Employer’s Requirements, contract documents, and applicable codes and standards.
    • Check that design intent is accurately reflected in shop drawings and construction documentation, and coordinate clarifications with discipline engineers as required.
    • Apply technical document control, review, and QA/QC procedures across design and construction stages in accordance with project requirements and CDE processes.
    • Maintain and update technical review and approval records, including tracking comments, revisions, submissions, and outstanding actions across all disciplines.
    • Support design reviews, audits, and authority submissions, and coordinate the closure of technical comments, observations, and non-conformities.
    Stakeholder Engagement
    • Operate within the Design & Build design management workflow, coordinating technical communications between consultants, contractors, and internal teams under the direction of the Design/Technical Manager.
    • Manage the day-to-day technical coordination process, including administration, tracking, and follow-up of RFIs, technical queries, design clarifications, and interface inputs.
    • Prepare, consolidate, and maintain accurate technical records, logs, and status updates to support client, consultant, and authority meetings led by the Design  Manager.
    • Ensure all technical communications, actions, and decisions are aligned with the approved design workflow, properly documented, tracked, and closed out in accordance with project procedures.
    Research and Innovation
    • Stay informed of current materials, construction methods, and engineering practices relevant to the project.
    • Identify and propose practical technical improvements or alternatives that may support cost efficiency, programme optimization, or buildability, for review by the Design Manager.
    • Capture and contribute to lessons learned, technical feedback, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to support continuous improvement across the project and organization.
Requirements:
  • Industry / Domain
    • Design & Build engineering projects within the construction industry.
    • Multidisciplinary engineering coordination across design and site delivery stages.
    Necessary Knowledge and Experience
    • Minimum 10–12 years of relevant engineering experience within design, construction, or Design & Build project environments.
    • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering deliverables, including design drawings, shop drawings, and technical submissions.
    • Sound working knowledge of building systems and discipline interfaces (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical).
    • ‘Proficient’ in technical documentation, review workflows, and engineering coordination processes.
    • Strong professional proficiency in English, written and spoken.
    Education and Certification Minimum Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Architecture, Structural, or related discipline preferred).
    • Master’s degree is an advantage.
    • Professional or engineering certification/licensing is an advantage but not mandatory.
    Job Specific and Technical Skills
    • Proficient in engineering and design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, BIM coordination tools).
    • Strong understanding of design coordination, constructability, and design-to-construction workflows.
    • Ability to manage technical logs, trackers, and document control systems within a CDE environment.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and technical accuracy.
    • Effective communication and coordination skills to support collaboration across engineering disciplines and project teams.
