Job Description: Sustainability Specialist

Overview: The Sustainability Specialist is responsible for overseeing sustainability management activities, providing expert knowledge and technical support in data gathering, performance tracking, stakeholder engagement, and reporting. This role includes developing and implementing sustainability strategies that align with national and international standards, ensuring the organization meets its sustainability commitments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Qatar and UAE National Visions.
• Collaborate with the Strategic Planning team to align business and strategic plans with sustainability principles.
• Conduct regular stakeholder engagement to enhance transparency and sustainability reporting.
• Establish governance for the Sustainability Management Plan, ensuring effective implementation and regular review.
• Integrate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into sustainability management programs.
• Design cross-functional sustainability performance goals, KPIs, and metrics to drive sustainability initiatives.
• Interpret sustainability data and establish tools for tracking performance, identifying areas for improvement.
• Lead the development of the annual Sustainability/ESG report in accordance with relevant reporting frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD).
• Manage communications related to sustainability performance and support sustainability reporting.
• Stay updated on emerging sustainability trends and technologies, exploring innovative solutions to enhance efforts.
• Conduct benchmark studies against industry peers to improve sustainability performance.
• Develop training materials on sustainability practices and engage employees to foster sustainability initiatives.
• Raise awareness among employees regarding sustainability goals and practices.
• Identify sustainability-related risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
• Track changes in sustainability/ESG standards and monitor organizational performance relative to industry benchmarks.
• Assist in preparing and monitoring the Environment, Sustainability & Climate Action budget, seeking cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining quality.
• Represent the organization at sustainability-related events, conferences, and forums.
• Advocate for sustainable practices within the industry and broader community.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the line manager/supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Proven experience in sustainability management or a related role.
• Strong understanding of ESG principles and sustainability reporting frameworks.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across functions and engage stakeholders effectively.
